Claudia I. Salazar, Psy.D. is a bilingual, licensed clinical psychologist in the District of Columbia. She obtained her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University. During her training, Dr. Salazar worked with children, as young as three years old, and their families in public preschools. After graduation, Dr. Salazar did her postdoctoral training at the Linkages to Learning Program, which offered school-based psychotherapy and assessment services for students of diverse backgrounds who attend the Montgomery County Public Schools. Her experience at this organization allowed her to gain a first-hand view of the world that young children face each day when they go to school. She participated in IEP meetings and conducted family therapy as well as play therapy with children as young as four and into the middle school years.

Dr. Salazar acquired extensive experience administering a wide range of psychological tests for educational purposes at several DC Public Charter Schools. She participated fully in the IEP proceedings. In her private practice, she has also offered psychoeducational, psychological, and neuropsychological evaluations for families who are looking into obtaining documentation for accommodations for children ages four to young adults attending college.

Dr. Salazar’s demeanor can be described as warm and easy going. She makes sure to follow her client’s lead when it comes to establishing rapport. She finds it helpful to know before meeting her clients, especially youngsters, about their quality of rest the night previous to the testing session, whether or not they have been feeling well, and if they had a good breakfast. She also appreciates that each child has a different way to approach new people and situations and makes sure that transitions are easy for them.

Aside from her collaboration with Washington Psychology Associates, Dr. Salazar has a psychotherapy practice that shares its home with WPA ( ). She specializes in offering short-term dynamic therapy to individuals who are motivated to make substantial changes in their lives, in a timely manner. Dr. Salazar is also passionate about offering training to doctoral students and early career psychologists to become effective psychotherapists.

Dr. Salazar enjoys taking up a variety of challenges outside of work, and her 12-year-old daughter. She is training to run the next Marine Corps 10k race, taking a photography class, and working on improving her public speaking skills at a local Toastmasters club.
